Metrics

A metric is a specific quantifiable measure used to assess progress, performance, or impact in relation to a specific goal or objective. Measures are fundamental to performance management and strategic planning, providing the data necessary to evaluate success, identify areas for improvement, and guide decision-making. In the context of OKRs (Objectives and Key Results), measures play a critical role in defining Key Results and tracking their achievement.

Relationship Between Measure and Metric:

  • Measure: A measure is a broad term that refers to any quantifiable indicator used to track performance or progress. Measures provide the raw data that organizations need to understand how well they are performing against their goals.
  • Metric: A metric is a specific type of measure that is used to quantify a particular aspect of performance. Metrics are precise and focused, often expressed in numerical terms such as percentages, rates, or absolute numbers. For example, the number of new donors acquired or the percentage increase in volunteer retention are metrics.
